ng works or activities of the highest quality calls for a jury with a wide range of expertise in international children’s and young adult literature, reading promotion and children’s rights. The 12-member jury includes academics, writers, illustrators, librarians and literary critics, plus one member representing Astrid Lindgren’s family. Between meetings, jury members read a great many books, expert opinions and reference materials. When nominees are to be recognized for works or activities over their entire career, evaluating a nomination often takes several years. The jury also decides upon the list of nominating bodies.
