New Swedish Books 12 Baby Blues Agnes and Frank l
ive in the suburb of Hägersten in Stockholm. It’s summertime and they have just become parents to Elise. Frank’s working through the summer and Agnes is on parental leave. She joins a ‘mum’s group’, goes to Stay and Play sessions at the children’s centre, and participates in other activities together with Elise. She meets an old friend from school, begins to exercise a lot to lose the baby weight, daydreams with Frank about buying their own little house, and makes a frantic attempt at only eating organic produce. She’s doing it all in order to conquer the growing anxiety within her about this new life, and all the demands she experiences, and her expectations of herself and others. Ester Roxberg has an eye for everyday detail; the little things that create familiarity and open your eyes to the absurdities of modern day living. And at the centre of all this is Agnes, desperately trying to find herself and her place in life.
