New Swedish Books 44 Knutte’s House Knutte’s hous
e is too cramped and complicated. Too many little siblings, too much nagging from Mum. “‘I’m moving to a different house now,’ he says. And so he moves to another house.” But how fun is it really to be all alone? Soon Knutte starts missing having others around, and wishes he had a cat. And a cat arrives! That wants to move in! And then a dog comes along, and a pig, and a horse, and a rhino and… soon this house is too cramped as well. Maybe things weren’t all that bad at home with Mum? Knutte’s House is quite an absurd story featuring lions swinging from chandeliers and cockerels cockadoodling on the curtain rails. The collaboration between ALMA laureate Barbro Lindgren and multiple prize-winning Emma Adbåge feels right and natural from beginning to end. The writing and the illustrations complement each other, and the same apparently simple, knowing sense of humour radiates from every part of Knutte’s House.
