OULDING / EILAH WOOD / SARAH PENNINGTON / PAUL FITZPATRICK His Father’s Voice - ‘Forgot to Feed’ Limericks HFV back up their well-received ‘Arm’s Length’ single (which forms an EP in some quarters) with this synth driven opus. Ash O’Connor’s voice truly soars at times, swirling about the electronics. The ‘80s synths have a retro-futuristic sound that really elevates this thoroughly modern track. The b-side ‘This Poignant Moment’ pulls on similar devices but with a different slant, even drawing on The Cure at its crescendo. DC David Keenan - ‘Radiate A Smile’ Another class track from our unofficial bard, ‘Radiate A Smile’ recounts overheard mumblings, grumblings and sagacity on the terrace of a football stadium (Dundalk’s Oriel Park perhaps?), intimate moments between great friends in a traditionally aggressive space. David Keenan conjures up words and imagery for the ages over a keyboard led track that mirrors the song’s intrinsic tenderness. A really lovely record. PF PAGE 10 T.R.M (The Redneck Manifesto) - ‘Hidden Hands’ The Irish instrumental band have scaled down into a trio, not just in terms of numbers (& letters) but in their sound too. The funk remains as the bass heavy opening will attest but the sound is stripped back and more musical. The second phase of this single adopts a lovely sphere of soul/jazz calling back to the ‘70s, and is more interesting and cerebral. A new album is promised to arrive in the autumn. DC Tadhg Williams - ‘Endgame’ It is not often you hear a song that places you in a world where you feel like you are a part of the story. Tadhg Williams has released his new single ‘Endgame’, a track that is simplistically beautiful in its storytelling but vibrant in the emotions it invokes. This track is for anyone who seeks vulnerability and sheer honesty in their music. The melody and outro carry you away into a string-infused hug that makes you feel less isolated and misunderstood by the end. SP Aonair - ‘Conditional Heart’ 80s pop influence done right. Aonair’s newest single ‘Conditional Heart’ has nostalgic influences surrounded by a modern voice and energy. This feelgood track makes you want to put it on a loop and dance around in a velvet blazer. It features a rockin’ electric guitar solo that charges the rest of the track. Like most 80s masterpieces, the lyrical content is somewhat sad and realist-encapsulated by a maximalist sound and catchy melody. This track is bound to be a huge hit. SP Holly Munro - ‘New Years Moon’ Holly Munro’s latest single ‘New Years Moon’ takes you to another planet as its captivating melody and beat orbit around your head incessantly. The track makes you feel that you are sitting underneath the moon and having a conversation with her – a warm blanket of comfort. Munro’s distinct vocals shine brightly here and it’s another great release from an artist that is going one way only - stratospheric. SP Following their newest singles ‘All My Friends’ and ‘Two Cents’ released earlier this year, Big Sleep’s newest single ‘Daisy’ is an upbeat groovy song. This ultra catchy song is fun, high-energy, has a fantastic musicality and a brilliant beat. The Dublin Band is playing at Electric Picnic this year and with this new single, it has me on the edge of my seat anticipating what we will hear from them next. AG Graham Mitchell - ‘A Beating Soul’ Looking for a song to add to your Barbeque or Drinks at the Canal playlist this summer? Well, this song may be it. Based in Raheny, Graham Mitchell’s debut single, ‘A Beating Soul’, is an upbeat summer hit all about heartbreak. This song not only showcases his vibrant voice but is accompanied by an easy-flowing melody perfect for getting you in the summer mood, making it a promising single for the sunny days hopefully to arrive.
