HANK Drag Acid DRAG ACID is an art / music zine produced in Drogheda Co Louth by thirtythree-45, an arts and music initiative run by artist Brian Hegarty. The zine itself has just recently hit number 12 in the series and has thus far featured a wide array of national and international musicians and artists such as Nurse with Wound, Norman Westberg (SWANS), Black to Comm, Diarmuid MacDiarmada, Fran Cassidy as well as a collaboration between renowned tattoo artist Helen McDonnell and Paddy Shine from Gnod. All zines are 7 x 7 inch and printed in full colour on eco paper. Each zine comes with accompanying cdr of music made by the artist or the artist in collaboration with other musicians. In a world full of information overload the aim of this zine is to allow the images / audio to do the work. No explanation, no conceptual verbal gymnastics, no spelt out narrative, no artist CV. The aim is to allow the viewer to view, to have their own take on the work or just look and listen. Current issue – Hidden Perverse – by Andrew Lile is out now on https://dragacid. bandcamp.com/. Thirtythree-45 have a lovely collection of curated 5” records and digital downloads coming out at the moment, all beautifully packaged. Check out their bandcamp page. Worth your time Thank from Leeds are coming over to play in Bello Bar on Sat Sept 23rd. The band mixes noisy post punk with dance beats and pop hooks. Also playing are fellow post punk noiseniks Shifting plus the excellent self proclaimed Gay and Trans band Touch Excellent. A great night in store. Indie punkers Dream Wife play the Grand Social on Oct 10th. Their live shows are a celebration of inclusivity and energetic noise. Another highlight of the month. My first introduction to Blood Red Shoes was when the drummer Steven Ansell played in Cat On Form. They played with Fugazi in Brighton and the noise from the band was incredible, so this should be memorable. They play The Workmans on Oct 12th. Peter and The Test Tube Babies come to Lost Lane, brandishing their unique UK82 proud punk rock noise on Oct 13th while a great night is promised in Bohs on Oct 14th for the Goon DHC tape release show. It’s a good crossover show with the hardcore Dublin rap legends Nealo and Rebel P along with The Guilt D.C. and Bleak Truth. Waiting in the long grass Paranoid Visions have just announced what may become their annual Christmas shindig on Sat Dec 9th in The Grand Social with Radiocrimen coming over from the Basque Country to play with the Nilz and We Come In Pieces also on the bill. The veteran Dublin punks have just returned from their best Rebellion performance yet when they went down the proverbial storm at the annual punk festival in Blackpool. This will be a great night. Also coming up that night are Chewie who will be launching their new album Inarticulate in The Button Factory, a couple of months after releasing it. Finally, for now, also playing that night is The Nightingales in the Bello Bar. Three gigs on one night worth any punk’s time. DIY means Do It Yourself but should we not say DIT - Do It Together? There’s a fine punk scene bubbling under countrywide. Historically Dublin, Cork, Belfast and Galway have had strong music scenes, however, in more recent times, towns around have been springing up with gigs in Community Centres, pubs and whatever spaces the punks can get their hands on. Ballina, Drogheda, Castlebar, Waterford, Longford, Enniscorthy, Sligo, Dundalk, Bangor and Longford have all held punk gigs recently. Booleigh in Kildare was home to the all day Arcadian Nights event in August. Youth Deprivation and Front Sector from Grongingen did an Irish tour recently that took in Ballina, Galway, Cork, Waterford and Enniscorthy. All gigs went down really well and had good attendances. The Do-It-Together scene is burgeoning. There’s plenty of options for people in Dublin at the moment, not just with traditional venues like the ones mentioned throughout these pages but places like Monos Bar in Bohemians Football Club are showing you can take a step away from the mainstream should you want. All My Friends is a new LGBTQIA+ and friends community space now open in Meath Street with a Queer Alternative Night - Alt Theys - on the 1st Sat of the month, from The Dance To The Underground team, held monthly in Fibbers. Great music and dancing guaranteed. PAGE 39 BLOOD RED SHOES
