Riche Pelago ”Right here, right now”, as proclaim
ed by the British big beat-philosopher Fatboy Slim late last century. He knew what he was talking about. If you’re waiting to enjoy life until there’s no hardship, you could be made to wait forever. Now, I don’t know if injecting spike protein in the entire population is the answer to all of our worries, but hopefully a lot of the pandemic issues could eventually go away. And what then? Well, the post-pandemic world might well present such lovely things as economic struggle, depression, job losses and even a return to that boring mundane everyday life. But even if so, long before any of that, there lies a summer. And we need to make the most of it. A summer in the city in 2021 won’t exactly be bursting with festivals, giant events or anything for that matter that requires a bit of planning and approval months in advance. What it does offer on the other hand, are a lot of good spots to just hang out. Meet friends of old and make new. So for now, forget the religious meaning of paradise as an afterlife thing, forget rivers of honey and milk that never sours. The origins of the word paradise in Greek, Persian and even Arabic derive from ’walled garden’. This summer people’s perception of paradise should be anything but walled. Let the people out to enjoy themselves. I know the modern Western meaning of paradise might look different to each and every one of us - many would think of palm trees and beaches, others a secluded mountaintop, a packed club or a hammock in a quiet summer house garden with a good book. The constant? Paradise describes an idyllic state. Hopefully, that’s what will be served up on rooftop bars, waterside restaurants and other summery hotspots this July. Possibly even together with people you didn’t Riche Pelago even remember that you’ve been missing, and after over a year of hunkering down - the more the merrier. Here are some new openings and otherwise good places to spend a hot summer around the city. Riche Pelago In the first week of July the Riche summer pop-up is weighing anchor. Well, not really, Riche Pelago is a 350 square metre large pontoon situated just beside Fyrskeppet at Djurgården so it will stay put. For six weeks the restaurant will be open from lunchtime all the way through to late evenings, for anyone who wants to eat, drink, and listen to DJs and music. Menu wise, they will be offering grilled seafood, various cuts of meat, Swedish summer greens and of course the dessert Gino. The bookings have been opened and the first guests are welcome from July 2nd. 13
