BUSINESS PRESENTATION MILTENYI BIOTEC Over 200 sc
ientists from across the Nordic region participated in scientific exchange at Miltenyi Biotec’s annual Nordic Scientific Day in November 2019. MILTENYI BIOTEC Offering a platform for the discussion of new treatments and applications, and to exchange innovative ideas, Miltenyi Biotec’s annual Nordic Scientific Day combines expert presentations, discussions, and networking sessions. This format ensures all participants get plenty of opportunities to input their own tips and successes, as well as challenges and frustrations, as Martin Schalén, Marketing Manager at Miltenyi Biotec Nordics and co-organizer of the event explains. “Bringing researchers, clinicians, and the industry closer together at one event significantly helps to foster interaction and develop new perspectives and innovative ideas for the future. The former two are able to share key learning and spark new avenues to explore from one another, whilst industry attendees gain invaluable insights into existing pain points, which helps to devise ways to alleviate them.” Speakers in 2019 included Agnete As no doubt anyone reading this is aware, the Nordic region plays host to cutting-edge biomedical research and clinical trials across a large number of world-leading institutions. biotechnology firm with a strong footprint in the region, Miltenyi Biotec has long benefited from a multidisciplinary team, which goes a long way to explaining its interest in strengthening the links between basic and translational research, as well as the eventual transformation of research results into clinical trials. Multidisciplinary or not, such lofty goals can only be achieved via regular feedback from, and collaboration with, the local and international scientific communities. After all, it is pretty much a prerequisite of scientific discovery that new ideas are created by sharing and building upon one another’s work, by jointly striving to overcome challenges, and to keep pushing the boundaries of science by questioning and improving accepted knowledge. With this in mind, Miltenyi Biotec set up its inaugural Nordic Scientific Day two years ago, with the aim of increasing exactly this kind of connectivity. Last year the return of the event in early November saw more than a doubling in attendance. Well over 200 scientists descended on Copenhagen’s Panum Institute to hear from a packed speaker roster of some of the world’s foremost experts in regenerative medicine and immune therapy. Kirkeby, Associate Professor of Stem Cell Biology at DanStem in Copenhagen, Jens Kastrup, Professor and Director of Cardiac Stem Cell Centre at Copenhagen Hospital, Jonas Nilsson, Group Leader at Sahlgrenska Cancer Center and Professor of Experimental Cancer Surgery at Gothenburg University, Katja Puttonen, Head of Process Development at Kuopio Center for Gene and Cell Therapy, Jan Talts from Lund-based Longboat Amniotics, and Doctors Ebba Sohlberg and Melanie Lambert, representing respectively the Malmberg and Mattias Carlsten Groups from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. A further Nordic Scientific Day is being planned for the end of 2020.
