WEEKLY NEWS UPDATES FROM OUR NEWSLETTER NORDIC LIFE SCIENCE NEWS CALL: +46 8 588 941 52 OR SIGN UP AT: NORDICLIFESCIENCE.ORG once each year Nordic Life Science has had a special focus on the Nobel Prize, shedding light on the most important scientific discoveries and our most exceptional scientists. It is, as always, a privilege to learn more about the findings and to share the Laureates’ stories with you. Something that struck me this year was that all Laureates spoke strongly about their passion for making discoveries, and also for the scientific process towards a discovery. The search, the hunt, the quest to find something exciting, something new. Putting new knowledge out there is an important driving force and something that gives them a spark. Words the Laureates in Physiology or Medicine used to describe this were for example satisfying, being a puzzle solver, a beautiful tribute to nature and an enjoyable problem solving process. Besides our interviews with the Laureates, you can learn more about the key scientific discovery awarded with the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, oxygen sensing. You can also learn more about one of our greatest medical technology discoveries, the pacemaker – where the lithium-ion battery, awarded with the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, has played a very important role. In order to continue to make new world-changing discoveries environments must be created where this spark can be found, or as Nobel Laureate William Kaelin puts it, ”Create a science-rich atmosphere” (as in the US in the 1960s). Kaelin also warns for a shift in attitudes towards science. He fears that there is a growing suspicion and skepticism, and that we’ve gotten away from the celebration of science. At Nordic Life Science we like to follow Kaelin’s advice, celebrate science and PARTNERS: create a life science rich atmosphere, both in our magazine and on our site. I would like to welcome you to a new decade with us and I hope that you will enjoy our daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly updates about our region’s exciting life science industry, including progress, challenges, in-depth articles and the latest news. We’re always looking for fascinating discoveries and progress within the field of life sciences, so regardless if you are a small research group or a large company, do not hesitate to contact us if you have a story to tell!
