WEEKLY NEWS UPDATES FROM OUR NEWSLETTER NORDIC LIFE SCIENCE NEWS CALL: +46 8 588 941 52 OR SIGN UP AT: NORDICLIFESCIENCE.ORG has really brought things to a head, not least within life sciences. What previously took a decade, now took the industry less than a year to achieve. Vaccines and new treatments were developed in record time, and probably very soon, the first COVID-19 antiviral pill will be approved. The pandemic has also accelerated the development of new technologies and methods of working. One such example is the use of mRNA, which after about 50 years, now sees its revolution. Scientists hope that mRNA will play a big role in the fight against infectious diseases, such as malaria, and lead to effective cancer vaccines. Another new tool within life sciences that has taken a big leap forward during the pandemic is Real-World Evidence (RWE), which we have put a little extra focus on in this issue as our Hot topic of the quarter. Together with clinical trials, RWE helps to build a bigger picture of the effectiveness of a medicine or vaccine in the real-world setting. With our unique health data infrastructure our region is all set to become a front-runner in this field. PARTNERS: In this issue we have also chosen to turn the spotlight on some of our successful Nordic profiles abroad. Whether it is the former R&D executive who is helping young companies grow based in the U.S. or the alliance director exploring the potential of the microbiome in Switzerland – they all provide valuable insights from the global life science industry and give perspectives on the Nordic one. Last but not least, a very hot topic in the spotlight in this issue is the quest to find and secure talent. We take a closer look on how to keep up with the demand and with whom the responsibility rests to solve the skills supply challenge.
