Trädgården has temporarily been transformed into
Mellangården and we speak to big boss Johanna Schneider to hear what this means exactly. Words: Peyvand Ahmedi Photo: Sima Korenivski For the first time in its history, Trädgården is taking a well-deserved break, and stepping aside to make room for the new concept Mellangården. We asked Johanna Schneider to tell us more about the concept, and what we can expect from it. ”It’s an oasis for those who have missed their weekends. A place where food, drink, quizzes, music and even politics can co-exist,” she says. How did you come up with the name? Well, in a way it’s kind of obvious. It’s happening ‘mellan’ [in between] now and Trädgården, so to speak. But in many ways, it’s open to interpretation too. Another thing that’s new for this year is a collaboration with Reformaten, an organisation that works to spread information and spark debate about how our food is produced and consumed. Every week we will see a new theme, coming to life through food talks, and a specially composed new menu created by rotating guest chefs. Over the course of the summer, there will be seven different types of raw produce in focus, both on the plates as well as in the food talks. Food and wine will have an important role, so what can we expect from the menus? We will explore, beef, fish, poultry, game, grains, root vegetables and legumes. We’ll have a new guest chef every week, who will showcase some fantastic new flavours and share some of their knowledge. Among others we’ll have Jonathan Kasche from Emmer and Svartengrens. But honestly, you won’t want to miss a single week! Vegetarian? You can breathe a sigh of relief. The chefs will always have an option for those with different dietary preferences. When it comes to the drinks side of things, you’ll have wine importers coming by to present their favourite small-scale producers, right? This is a perfect opportunity for those who already love natural wine to dive deeper and discover some exciting new importers. And it also caters for those with just a passing interest in natural wine who are curious and want to know more. Actually, it’s for everyone, as long as you enjoy a good glass of wine in good company. You will also arrange quizzes and “nearly-live performances”, what exactly do you mean by “nearly-live” performances”? And could you reveal a name or two who will nearly perform? We will, like last summer, follow the guidelines and restrictions, which makes everything take a slightly different form to what we’re used to. Every Saturday, we will highlight new music through release parties. Linn KochEmmery, Vacation Forever, Nadja Evelina, Elliphant and Djurparken are some of the names that will, in some shape or form, bring their music here. What DJs have you booked? Dorisburg, DJ Taro, Elliphant, Vacation Forever, Olivia Bergman, Adrian Lux and Harald Björk. Mellangården is open each Friday and Saturday. No bookings, only drop in. 15
