ROADMAP Peter Steen-Christensen Padel on another
level Its rise in popularity has been astonishing, but is it a lasting trend or just a passing fad? The raquet sport padel can be traced all the way back to Acapulco, Mexico in the late 1960s, and it has been spreading like wildfire over the past few years. Now department store NK, that old bastion of style and good taste, has opened a padel court on the roof of their carpark. The venture is a collaboration with Ascaro, a premium padel fashion brand (no, we weren’t aware such a thing existed either) and possibly the first attempt in Stockholm to make the sport a little more high-brow. A Swedish Love Story Roy Andersson is one of the most celebrated and influential European film directors, and other than a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, this is the first time that Andersson’s films, images and scenography will be on display in a large exhibition. The retrospective at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern showcases his distinctive work, all the way from A Swedish Love Story back in 1970 via his classic commercials up to his modern work. Roy Anderson: Om detta att vara människa (About Being Human) is on display from 28 May until January 2022. Ceiling good Italian eatery Ricordi has opened by Kungsträdgården, and this new venture by restaurant group Brasseriegruppen is of course newsworthy in itself. But we’d like to focus on a dedicated effort by local artist Malin Gabriella Nordin, spanning several months, that has culminated in four site specific paintings occupying 60 square metres of Ricordi’s ceilings. Her blend of shape and colour is supposed to echo the city’s swirling waters and leafy parks, and she certainly puts them to evocative use. Quite evidently on the ceiling of Ricordi. 6
