Exhibition Darragh Shanahan - Everybody Knows Dea
d People Exhibition Yeye Weller - New Year Same Me With an arsenal of cartoon-like doodles, German illustrator YeYe Weller brings a vibrant palate to a distinctive playful style in his character creations. The show features 12 new works including Diet Starts Tomorrow, New Year but Same Troubles and our favourite, Having New Year’s Resolutions is so Last Year. Sentiments which should chime with our well-meaning slacker sensibilities. “I love soccer, rain and sarcasm,” says Yeye, so he’ll fit right in here too. Hen’s Teeth until Thursday February 6 Darragh Shanahan, well known to photographers from his work with the Gallery of Photography, tilts his gaze sky bound in this new body of work. We’ve all tried to interpret the clouds which pass overhead, seeing and momentarily make-believing. We all share the same sky but what we see differs if it isn’t a solid blanket of grey. In this selection of images, Shanahan moves beyond the grey, catching light as it dances with the elements. There are clouds which could be waves or geysers and then there are straight up clouds in their infinite variations. “The heightened awareness of what is happening over-head actually reinforces the sense of our immediate, grounded position. It is a movement that grows out of a seemingly trivial observation, activated by simply shifting our attention upwards,” says Darren Campion in The Same Sky, a commissioned text accompanying the show.
