AUTUMN 2016 Evening Land What is this life we are
living? The lines between private life and work blur, fantasies are mixed with reality, and our desire bewilders us totally. Truth and lies, attraction and betrayal, longing and dreams of belonging, the possibilities and impossibilities of love: they all whirl around in Karolina’s life. She is a professor of art history, specialising in feminism and the artist, and the protagonist of Therese Bohman’s third novel Evening Land. When Anton turns up, a talented PhD student with an interesting subject, her life is turned on its head: in relation to her colleagues, Anton and herself, and her own wishes and motives. Therese Bohman is well versed in both art and literary history, she is familiar with both the academic world and life outside it, and she effectively constructs class and gender perspectives on her narrative world. Her critically acclaimed novel The Other Woman was nominated for the 2015 Nordic Council Prize for Literature.
