Perhaps this is precisely what Sara Stridsberg creates in her work: bright spaces for vulnerable characters, where their voices can be heard and their lives can shine in all their beauty and pain. Previously she has written about Valerie Solanas, Nabokov’s Lolita, and her own father, but has always created works more dream-like than biographical. The same can be said for Antarctica of Love, which is inspired by a famous Swedish murder case. The novel centres around Kristina’s moment of death, and the people she leaves behind: parents who lose a daughter; children who lose a mother. It is a moving literary experience in which the dazzling prose is akin to poetry. Photo: Irmelie Krekin
