Comedy: Chappelle & Stewart Theatre: Snow White L
ook, we all know the story of Snow White, something about some dwarves, a princess, magic shoe? Okay, I’ve kind of forgotten exactly which fairy tale princess is which, but you get the idea. This version at Stadsteatern takes that classic story however, and roughs and scuffs it up a bit. Snow White arrives in the dwarves’ lives and becomes not a submissive servant to them, but instead a tyrant lording over them, putting them firmly in their place. A playful, dramatic dark comedy, it opens in late September. Snövit, Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Opens Sep 28 In a year of weird news, one of the more normal things to occur was the announcement that comedy giants Dave Chappelle and Jon Stewart were going on tour. Chappelle, iconic from his mid-00s sketch show Chappelle’s Show, had returned to the scene last year with four Netflix specials, and was joined by the former The Daily Show host Stewart at a stand-up show in New York in August 2017. This spring, they announced some joint shows in the US, and now they’re taking it international, with Sweden on the itinerary for October. They’ll be at the Ericsson Globe in October. By the way, the show is also no-phone, so you’ll have to leave yours at home or in a sealed pouch for the show. So if you’re only going for the Instagram opportunity, maybe don’t bother. Jon Stewart & Dave Chappelle, Ericsson Globe, Oct 14 Gig: Many Voices Speak On her debut EP Away For All Time, Many Voices Speak’s Matilda Mård showed herself to be a master of cinematic melancholy, sadness rendered with touching grace and elegance. This talent culminated in her covering Blue Moon, probably the ultimate example of the genre. She released her debut album Tank Town at the end of August, having shown on the early singles Necessaries, I Saw You and Chances an expanded musical range, a sound that stretches to more styles and ideas than before. But what remains is her show-stopping voice and that she’s a beautiful songwriter. She plays her first Stockholm show in a long time at Obaren in October.
