Volvo Cars go for Teng Tools Supplier, which incl
udes common sourcing where different products are purchased across the group. In close co-operation with TOOLS West Recently a co-operation agreement was signed between Volvo Cars and Swedish retailer chain TOOLS regarding hand tools from Teng Tools. The plan is that all Volvo Car’s production and maintenance units in Sweden will in the future exclusively use the Teng Tools product assortment when it comes to standard hand tools. -The reasons for this new agreement are many, says Bo Warenius who has been responsible for the stock optimisation project from Volvo Car’s side. -We wanted to create uniformity between all factories within the group to be able to decrease the number of suppliers and get good purchase volumes. The most important thing though was to fi nd an optimal assortment, both with regard to quality, range and price. According to Bo Warenius, the stock optimisation project is part of a bigger picture in which the central organisation within Volvo works with a so called CMS concept, that is, Commodity Management and the salesman Fredrik Wennberg, part of Teng Tools range has been tested at Volvo plants with good results. After the tests all the maintenance directors at Volvo’s four plants in Sweden (Torslanda, Floby, Skövde and Olofström) decided that it would be Teng Tools that is the brand name when it comes to hand tools in the future for Volvo. -We see it as a win-win-situation for all parties involved – in this case Volvo, TOOLS, Teng Tools and Luna, says Bo Warenius. -If you don’t don’t get anything. It is as simple as that. SRM-catalogue Orders are placed by the different plants via requisition directly to TOOLS West locally for delivery the day after. Everything is done according to an internal hierarchical order to keep track of all orders and purchases. -The thought is that in the future we will design a catalogue in SRM with a customised assortment of the most high volume hand tools to make it easier for purchasers and users to order from TOOLS West, explains Fredrik Wennberg from TOOLS. -We will continue to roll out the CMS concept to our plants outside of Sweden such as in Belgium, says Bo Warenius. give anything then you -Our goal is that in the future we will have a common IT-system where we have full control over everything between our plants. A positive reception Recently TOOLS West joined with representatives from Luna and Teng Tools at two exhibitions during one day at the Volvo plant in Torslanda, Gothenburg, where the real users were invited to take a closer look at the product range and ask questions. This will also happen at Volvo’s other plants in Sweden soon. -We did get a very good reception and it feels that we have proof now that Teng Tools is a brand name to count on in the market. We know that the power of habit is strong and it can be diffi cult to break this when using a new hand tool but in this case we are convinced that it will work fi ne, says Fredrik Wennberg. And considering how one of the fair visitors explained his view -”When you see this you just want to start working” it will probably not be a problem. According to Karin Klouman at Teng Tools, another positive effect is that the users contribute to our product development by telling us what new products they need and help us to refi ne our existing products with constructive criticism and suggestions. So it really is a win-win-situation… 5
