ROADMAP Peter Steen-Christensen Resilience Film f
estival CinemAfrica, devoted to celebrating African and diaspora cultures, heads into its 22nd edition with ‘Resilience’ being its theme. Festival director Dina Afkhampour states that this year’s programme places great importance in the current discussions about the struggle for justice for black people across the world. And you can, for welldocumented reasons, enjoy it from the comfort of your own home, since the festival will be taking place digitally this year. But what’s in store filmwise? Afkhampour provides some info and gives us a few highlights. “The narrative films in this year’s programme constitute a geographic diversity we are proud of: Dhalinyaro by Lula Ali Ismail is one of the only feature length films to be entirely produced and directed by Djiboutians — a beautiful coming of age story for the whole family. You Will Die At 20 by Amjad Abu Alala has been touted as the revival of Sudanese cinema and This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection by Lemohang Mosese from Lesotho is the perfect symmetry between stunning visuals and captivating story-line. Plus never before have we felt compelled to include as large a documentary film section,” she concludes. This Is Not A Burial, It's A Resurrection Sonjas Grill Short and sweet Another film festival coinciding with the upcoming October darkness is StockMotion. Its seventh iteration will also go ahead online this year. But before that, AMF Fastigheter and Film Capital Stockholm are arranging short film screenings for the public at Sergels Torg. The fare is a carefully selected sample from last year’s StockMotion festival and will be screened at lunchtime in September. On Thursday 24 September, for example, there is both Jamila and Sonjas Grill on the lunch time menu. And see stockmotion.se for more info on this year’s festival. StockMotion goes ahead October 14-17 Kulturhuset is back The popular Kulturhuset at Sergels Torg finally opens up again and Stockholms Stadsteater has been burdened or blessed with the task of steering the whole ship. They will be behind the work, not only the theatre, but also the restaurants, activities and events. “This will give us an even greater possibility to be a cultural oasis. We will offer a total experience that comprises everything from dining out, listening to fairy tales, to creating in a workshop through to experiencing professionally created art,” says Jesper Karlsson, CEO at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. Magnus Åkerström, Young Chef of the Year in 2018, will take the reins in the Teaterbaren kitchen. A new vegetarian-focused café will also open on the ground floor. 6 Photo: Petra Hellberg
