BARFLY THE ART OF DUBLIN’S PUBS The undoubted cha
rm of many of the city’s hostelries has been immortalised in a stunning new series of colourful prints by talented artist and DJ Sarah Rossney. The artist, who paints city streetscapes using acrylic on canvas, and then works with the Copper House Gallery to transform them into print, says that the painting of one particular place – O’Neill’s Victorian Pub and Townhouse – is particularly important to her. Reflecting on the process of creating the piece in a post on Instagram, the artist said, “It’s crazy how you can start a painting at one stage of your life and finish it at another. Painting this at night kept me sane while my Dad was sick. It kept my mind occupied at a time when I needed distraction. I couldn’t sleep so I painted.” Dedicating the piece to her Dad, she added, “It will always hold a special place in my heart.” Sarah’s work is available to buy as part of the Design Ireland pop-up showcasing the works of thirty-five artists and brands, which continues at Arnotts until July. @oneillsvictorianpub LOVE AND TIME Solidarity and love to our friends at Love Tempo who are busy salvaging what they can following the ravages of an unexpected fire at their premises on Thomas Street last month. While nobody was hurt, it looks like the music-led neighbourhood bar will sadly be closed for some time. As they so nicely put it, love and time are all we have, so we’ll be keeping an eye on their socials for updates and we look forward to seeing them rise from the ashes once the assessors have done their job. Meanwhile El Milagro, purveyors of some of the city’s finest tacos, who had been running the kitchen at Love Tempo, temporarily relocated to Rascals in Inchicore, who kindly made their space available to them last month. With a plethora of summer festivals on the horizon, we can’t wait to see where they pop up next. @lovetempodublin @elmilagro_ireland THE WOLVES OF WIGWAM Fancy playing the market with your drinks? Well now here’s your chance. Abbey Street stalwart Wigwam recently launched Stock Market Mondays, an innovative new weekly event where the price of their drinks rise and fall on a Monday night based on demand. The strategy behind the new initiative is that the more people order a particular drink, the higher the price for that tipple climbs. But if no one’s buying margaritas? Watch the price drop like a stone, making it the perfect time for boozers to bag a bargain. We’re told that success is all about good timing and playing the game while keeping a beady eye out for market crashes throughout the evening. Would be Wolves of Middle Abbey Street are invited to try their luck on Mondays from 8pm to late. In keeping with the theme tickets are free before the event, and €5 on the door. @wigwamdublin 34
