acking 2025 from the off, this is the Dublin band’s first EP release. With 5 tracks in total they’ve front loaded the quality, first with ‘America’ which takes a swipe at the once great nation, “There’s no rules in America, I got a gun in a shopping bag”. It’s really well constructed with a fine crescendo. Then highlight ‘Anne Marie’ delivers a weighty punch with echoes of early Therapy? and Compulsion. One of the highlights of the opening weekend of Ones To Watch, they return to Whelan’s in March. DC Cherry Cosmos - Brother Your Time Will Come/Still Gone Man, Solid Gone (Double A) Another release on the vital Irish psyche label Fuzzed Up & Astromoon Records (on yummy transparent vinyl too), Cherry Cosmos is the nom-de-plume of Dublin psychedelic artist Alan Brady who changes tack slightly here, adopting a more straightforward Spaceman 3 like vibe on ‘Brother…’, a song that rocks with no drums. No mean feat. ‘Still Gone…’ is broody and atmospheric, a dirty blues swamper that could easily fit on the soundtrack for a Netflix detective show, preferably set in New Orleans. Pale Blue Eyes - Rituals As the Devon groups’ third album New Place nears release, they’ve dropped a third single ‘Rituals’. Thematically it marries in with the larger body of work as Matt Board continues to process the passing of his father. He sings “The past and present collide. Can I let go?” The shift towards a more electronic, Krautrock sound is also evident, particularly in the motorik outro that grooves into Melts territory. DC Dirty Projectors, David Longstreth, s t a r g a z e - Uninhabitable Earth, Paragraph One Beginning with a word for word reading of paragraph one of Wallace-Wells’ 2019 bestseller The Uninhabitable Earth. This single is the first track from a 24 track opus collaborating with the Berlin based Chamber Orchestra s t a r g a z e. The glorious resultant bears remarkable similarities to the Sean O’Hagan duets with Laetitia Sadier soaked in familiar strings. Can’t wait to hear more. DC 12 Deep Sea Diver - Shovel This is the second single from their fourth album Billboard Heart due February. Guitarist/Singer Jessica Dobson’s initial delivery is as pointed as the shovel she is carrying, channeling early PJ Harvey but there is a significant duality with the chorus ushering in carefree whirling synths and tonal change much more akin to Goldfrapp. Nonetheless it proves a happy stylistic marriage that yields even more enjoyment with repeated listenings. DC Clipping. - Change the Channel The Californian, experimental hip-hop outfit share another single from their 6th album Dead Channel Sky due out march 14th. Like the previous singles ‘Run It’ & ‘Keep Pushing’ it draws on sounds from mid ’90s rave culture. More specifically this single sounds like it exists in a space between the Prodigy’s Music for a Jilted Generation and The Fat of the Land, it takes a high energy swipe at the conspiracy culture rampant in America.
