summer festivals seem too far into the future for you to get excited about, then perhaps Greentea Peng’s upcoming show at the 3Olympia on April 27th won’t feel like light years away. The date is part of her European tour, and will follow the release of her latest album ‘Tell Dem It’s Sunny’, which includes the 2024 singles ‘TARDIS (Hardest)’ and ‘One Foot’. It suffices to say that this album will be essential listening when it lands on March 21st. Gurriers have had a decent start to the year after being included on Shazam’s 2025 Fast Forward list. The Irish five-piece are joined by names like the highly thought of UK artist Sienna Spiro, US duo Moody Joody, Nigeria’s Morravey, and a host of other acts from around the world. ‘In Hope Our Stars Align’ , the debut solo album from Bren Berry, arrived last month. Since his band Revelino came to an end in the early 2000s, he’s been busy 6 working as a concert promoter, so the album came as a welcome surprise to many. The recent single ‘Knives (Heavy Metal Rain)’ is a particular favourite at the moment. With the RTÉ Choice Music Prize event almost upon us, it’s the usual guessing game as to who will win what. Could Fontaines D.C. win Irish Album of the Year with this being their fourth nomination in this category? Will it be Jordan Adetunji, Sprints, Kneecap, Biig Piig or Kingfishr that will be crowned Breakthrough Artist? The event which takes place in Vicar Street on March 6th will be broadcast live on 2fm. There’s often music that you love, but over time it slips off your radar. Then for whatever reason you stumble upon it again years, even decades later. Cat Dowling’s 2013 album ‘The Believer’ was a constant for me for a number of years. A week wouldn’t pass without the tracks ‘The Well Runs Dry’, ‘Cruel’ and ‘Somebody Else’ being played multiple times. How does it sound almost 12 years on from its release? It’s in a league with the best of what PJ Harvey and Nadine Shah have created; it’s that good.
