Performance Binkbeats presents OHM Dance The Weig
ht Binkbeats – aka Frank Wienk – has been described as an “anti-Wizard Of Oz” when it comes to percussive music. “There is no smoke and mirrors; this polyrhythmic professor can actually recreate the most electronic sounding music with traditional instruments and compose the most baffling sonic worlds on-the-fly,” says beatsperminute.com. OHM is Wienk’s collaboration with multi-disciplinary artist Henk Schut based on the faultline of experimentation around transforming synthetic sounds into an analog, acoustic source. It forms part of the Europe Here and Now series of shows curated by cellist and Artistic Director of Crash Ensemble Kate Ellis. National Concert Hall, Tuesday November 7, €17.50 We’ve long admired work by Luca Truffarelli in all its guises whether it is his evocative photography or powerful video work with the likes of dancer and choreographer Oona Doherty. Movement, fluidity and grace are at the core of his offerings. Now with the world premiere of The Weight, Truffarelli creates a new immersive dance work which explores ideas of freedom and the individualism of human beings… shining a spotlight on workers’ rights. With an orchestral backdrop specially composed by Greg Haines and recorded with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, The Weight was originally conceived with Doherty and developed with Swiss-based dancer Erin O’Reilly. The Complex, Wednesday November 8 (preview) to Saturday November 11, 8pm, €16-€21 with a charitable donation of €2 will be made to SeaWatch per ticket. thecomplex.ie/event/the-weight Book signing & cocktails Oisín Davis - Irish Kitchen Cocktails Oisín’s infectious enthusiasm for the native drinks industry is well known to many in this city. He’s frequently rocked up to gatherings with his legendary punch bowls and now he may well come armed with his new book Irish Kitchen Cocktails. The tagline is, ‘60 Drinks you can make at home with everyday equipment.’ Each cocktail comes with a little personal anecdote such as Vive Cum Gaudio - Latin for ‘Live With Joy’ - being tattooed on his left forearm (Hot Whiskey with Pear & Chestnut) with the flavour combo emerging from having a cannoli in Jersey City. There’s discoveries such Berrisimo & OJ (an Irish Berry apertif), Vodka Jelly shots made from Refreshers candy and a Killahora Medley which combines the best from these Orchards in Cork. It should be noted how gorgeous this book looks too so kudos to editor Kristin Jensen (Nine Bean Rows), design (Graham Thew), styling (Orla Nelligan) and photography (Jo Murphy). Did someone say Christmas stocking filler box ticked in October? Industry & Co., Friday November 3, 6pm (no booking required, book €18) Festival Haunted Dancehall Seeing Oneohtrix Point Never deliver a visceral set in the Concert Hall as part of the inaugural Haunted Dancehall remains one of our favourite music experiences of 2022.
