CHAPTER 3 OUTER PACKAGING Intermediate sheets in
automated processes Rigid intermediate sheets • Intermediate sheet stuck in automatic depalletising x Remember: Rigid intermediate sheets are needed to stabilise the goods on the pallets and therefore it is important to use the recommended thickness of 2–3 mm if the pallet is to be handled in an automatic process. Do not use more intermediate sheets than necessary to maintain stability. In an automated process, you need to use whole and rigid intermediate sheets that fill the entire surface of the pallet. The intermediate sheets must not be split, irregular or perforated with holes. 32 Non-rigid intermediate sheets x Risk: Thin intermediate sheets of the friction-coated paper type cannot be handled in automated warehouses during automatic unloading. They get stuck and cause downtime. Transport packages/pallet crates are also not suitable for automated processes, as they require manual handling.
