CHAPTER 4 PALLETS • Covered pallet tunnels Rememb
er: The tunnels under the pallet must be free from plastic and there must not be any plastic wrapping hanging loose. Risk: Pallet tunnels covered with plastic wrapping cannot be handled in an automated warehouse as they risk being rejected on the conveyor system. Pallets that have to be re-layered result in a slower flow of goods. Loose hanging plastic wrapping may cause a stoppage in an automated warehouse. x • Slip sheet without overhang and packaging adapted to pallet dimensions x Slip sheet Slip sheets are used to facilitate and optimise handling in the container flow. They facilitate unloading at the customer and, thanks to their low height, the container’s fill rate is also optimised. Slip sheets are a good alternative to pallets that cannot be handled outside Europe. When unloading the container, the slip sheet module is placed on a full-size pallet. Remember: A slip sheet must be 800x1200 mm. The pull tab should be at least 100 mm to allow unloading. The total height of goods and slip sheets should be max. 1100 mm so that when the module is placed on a full-size pallet, the standard height of 1250 mm is maintained. Risk: If the slip sheet is too thin and/or the pull tab is too short, there is a risk of the slip sheet to split, so adjust the thickness according to the weight of the goods. 44 Example of slip sheet with overhang at the bottom and hanging plastic that can cause production stoppage
