PROUDLY SPONSORED BY FEASTS FOR THE SOUL AT KINAR
A KITCHEN WATERFORD FESTIVAL OF FOOD Over the years the delicious Pakistani fare on offer at Kinara Kitchen has often been credited with offering Dubliners ‘a culinary gateway to the tastes of South Asia’. Now that trend looks set to continue courtesy of a number of recent new additions to the menu, coupled with some great value dining offers. New dishes at the popular Ranelagh restaurant include Dum Boti, a creamy tenderloin beef starter, which can be enjoyed as part of a generous Early Bird offering comprising a starter and a main, accompanied by pilau rice and plain naan. It’s available for €29.50 on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4pm to 7pm. Meanwhile lunchtime features the traditional Thali Plate, a gorgeous assortment of dishes served on a single platter, in a custom that celebrates the Pakistani tradition of sharing and communal dining. General Manager Talha Pasha describes it as, “a culinary mosaic that’s perfect for working lunches or social gatherings”. A real feast for the soul, this authentic Pakistani experience costs €18.95 and is available every Thursday and Friday from 12-4pm. The restaurant also boasts an awardwinning cocktail selection, carefully created by Bartender Andrei Petrescu, who last year bagged ‘Best Cocktail Experience’ at the Asian Restaurant Awards. @kinara_group WE’RE LOVIN... Fussy Food Plates, a colourful new range of kitchenware designed to make eating more fun by encouraging children to explore and play with food. Dishwasher safe and built to last, the products can be found at Dublin stockists including Stock on King Street and Mira Mira in Sandyford. There’s also an opportunity to catch up with founder Samantha Forrest when she takes part in the Irish Pop Up Collective’s summer event which takes place at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire on Sunday May 12th. @fusssyfoodplates All roads lead to the sunny South East this month for one of the country’s longest running community food festivals. The scenic harbour town of Dungarvan serves as the main hub for the three-day festival, with events also taking place in nearby Lismore, Villierstown, Kilmeaden, Cappoquin and Ardmore. Inspired by the theme of ‘Connecting People with Food’, highlights from this year’s Waterford Festival of Food programme include guided taste tours, foraging trails, and sustainability workshops. Visitors can also look forward to live cooking demos and dining events hosted by guest chefs, as well as checking out the artisan wares at the festival’s famous outdoor market which takes place in the town’s Market Square on the final day. Friday April 19th to Sunday April 21st. @waterfordfestivaloffood NEXT LEVEL - S. PELLEGRINO YOUNG CHEF ACADEMY COMPETITION Irish chefs under 30, let’s be having ya! Entries are now open for the prestigious S. Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition which aims to discover and mentor the most promising and talented young chefs in the world. To secure the coveted title, entrants must demonstrate ‘unrivalled technical abilities’ as well as ‘true creativity’ to impress the global Grand Jury, which is made up of a panel of internationally renowned chefs. In particular, the talented winner will need to convince the jury of their ability to become a catalyst for positive change, while also demonstrating a strong personal belief regarding gastronomy. Irishman Mark Moriarty managed to do all that and claim the title back in 2015, and he reckons it’s well worth having a go at. “Winning the competition has opened up numerous avenues that would not have been possible before… I cannot recommend this competition enough for ambitious chefs with the talent and vision to build a career that works for them, and showcases the Irish hospitality industry on a global stage.” Naturally, stiff competition is expected, with entrants mentored closely throughout by world-renowned chefs who will help them bring their culinary skills and vision for the future to the next level. Applying chefs must be under 30 years of age and can register via the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition website. The application process closes on the June 19th.
