New Swedish Books 62 Icy Shadows The horror story
never gets old. It is constantly resurrected in new guises to tickle your frightened nerves. Icy Shadows offers a selection of modern, short horror stories that are easy to read, as well as ‘mini-scaries’ of just a few sentences. The stories are set in the present day. Allowing mobile phones and computer games to play central roles in some of the stories is what especially creates the connection to contemporary life. Clowns turn out to have a scary dark side, children with black eyes push their way into the house of someone who’s home alone, a friend has got stuck inside a computer game and has to quickly be played free. And a substitute teacher is really creepy when, reacting on a comment that her eyes are frightening, she gouges them out of her eye sockets and hands them to the student who dared to complain. Anderberg Strollo and Palmaer don’t scrimp on the scary stuff at the same time as they fill their stories with believable everyday settings.
