St, D1 hosts Swimming a Long Way Together, an exhibition by Dublin-based long-distance swimmer and visual artist Vanessa Daws, curated by Rosie Hermon. The ambitious art and swimming project, which opened on September 19, celebrates open-water and endurance swimming, its history, and its communities. The exhibition is inspired by the pioneer swimmer Mercedes Gleitze, the first British woman to swim the English Channel in 1927. After launching on the River Liffey, the project has travelled the island, visiting Midleton, Co. Cork, Donaghadee, Galway, as well as Brighton and Dover in England. The exhibition concludes on November 22, 2024. art LA GRANDE ILLUSION The exhibition La Grande Illusion hosted at Hugh Lane Gallery reveals artist Brian Maguire’s uncompromising fight against social injustices and their legacies. The display includes art from a particularly active period for the artist, 2007-2024, as he attempted to document the nature of war and its impact on the disenfranchised and our environment. Maguire’s work encapsulates social issues including class, gender, and postcolonialism, but the exhibit focuses on his representations of the fragility of human rights. The exhibition opened on the 3rd of October and will continue until 23rd of March 2025. Admission is free to the public. Hugh Lane Gallery, Parnell Sq, D1. 62
