ott Macnaughton (28.07.75-16.09.19) was a much-loved music head who had been knit into the scene here from the mid-‘90s when he started playing in The Kitchen. He moved to Tarifa, in the South of Spain, back in 2008 where he was involved in a number of bar ventures as well as being a wedding and event DJ until his untimely death. “Scott was part of a new generation of music tasters to also take advantage of bars – especially the ‘super’ bars – employing DJs. Some high profile residencies littered the late ‘90s and early Noughties, among them Spirit (now known as The Academy), The Globe, The Kitchen, PoD and Hogan’s,” says his pal Tonie Walsh. “For so many Tarifeñans lucky enough to have surfed Scott’s easy charm and bonhomie, it was difficult to imagine any life he’d had before Tarifa, such was his economic and cultural commitment to the little town of creatives and hipsters. His bright energy and unfailingly generous disposition touched so many people. He will be hugely missed.” Tonie will join DJs Billy Scurry, Hugh Scully, Arveene, Johnny Moy, Shay Hannon and many more for ‘Scotty’s Big Night Out’, a tribute night in The Academy Green Room on Friday November 15. Tickets are €20 with all proceeds to his son Daniel. Bláthanna – Irish Spaces in Flower is a curation of floral short stories in spaces. This anthology by Ruth Monahan of Appasionata Flowers who worked alongside Kasia Skopinska, her partner in crime in business and Ultan Devaney, her partner in life to create these stunning interpretations of these bee magnets. Drawing from Irish countryside textures and seasonal blooms, Bláthanna shows impressionistic creative portraits, imaginings and emotions of flowers in different surroundings and is shot by Ruth’s sister Yvette Monahan and her husband Sean Breithaupt. Designed by David Wall in Workgroup. Carrowmore, €50, appassionata.ie 8
