New Swedish Books, Spring 2020 1
15 Spring 2020 Maria Tapaninen Translates both to
and from Swedish and Finnish and lives in Stockholm. Since I’m far from settled on my selection I will mention just one more name: Linnea Axelsson. The amazing Sami epic Ædnan was published in 2018 and I would like one of its poetic passages to be included in the anthology. In a sparse language Axelsson paints a tremendous picture of Sami life throughout several generations. Their fight for the right to their land and to preserve their language and traditions is far from over. A dream job would be to translate the entire epic as a whole.
