Gig: Spiritualized The ‘90s was the era of Britpo
p, but Jason Pierce’s Spiritualized stood out from that crowd for producing music more sprawling, creative and compelling than any of his louder-shouting contemporaries could lay a finger on. His mad, tragic, beautiful masterpiece Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space is one of the decade’s best records, but he continued to release music of high quality in the years after, up to and including last year’s And Nothing Hurt. He heads on tour this year, coming to Vasateatern in March. Spiritualized, Vasateatern, Mar 17 Exhibition: Expressionist Masterpieces Early 20th-century Germany was the home of expressionism, and this exhibition at Millesgården brings a sample of that output to Stockholm, courtesy of a loan from the Aargauer Kunsthaus in Switzerland and the Osthaus-Museum Hagen collection in Germany. It features over 150 works produced between 1905 and 1938 from artists including Emil Nolde, Otto Mueller and Max Pechstein and groups like Der Blaue Reiter and Die Brücke. Europe’s post-industrial flux was reflected in the art produced by these groups – you’ll have the chance to explore them this spring and summer. Two years later, with her career having spent much of that time with its foot on the accelerator pedal, she’s stepped up to Berns. The American artist has just dropped her debut major label album Heard It In A Past Life, full of soft-touch, tasteful pop music. So catch her now, because next time she comes back the crowd will probably be even bigger. Maggie Rogers, Berns, Mar 8 27 Photo: Olivia Bee Photo: Juliette Larthe
