ound design, off kilter beats and saccharine melodies inform a kaleidoscopic new single from Meljoanns forthcoming ‘Status’ LP. The hyperpop sensation has manifested some of the filthiest low end synth sounds I’ve heard in a minute, with the rich and restless production revealing new particulars with repeated listens. It’s a banger of a tune that channels shades of Holly Herndon and Jon Hopkins through the lens of breathlessly modern pop. AOC Maria Somerville - Garden As her April album release draws nearer, Irish starlet Maria Somerville drops her second single. Like last years Projections single, the momentum is given by a Cure-like bassline anchoring the airy percussion and more ethereal sounds. The vintage shoegaze stylings draw from Slowdive’s debut album with the wistful guitar feedback swirling like a gentle breeze. The Irish leg of her world tour lands in The Button Factory on April 18th. DC MMOTTORR - EP1 MMOTTORR is a new collaborative project between Tr One and New Jackson. ‘U LIKE IT RAW (RED HOT)’ is a dirty ghetto house track, perfect for a Chicago basement. ‘RED EYE DRIVE’ is a clean acid groover with some smooth shimmering synth chords. ‘WANNADO’ brings some crunchy vintage acid and puts it in the washing machine with ‘90s Howie B. Imagine if Norken ever produced an acid track and you’d get ‘HEADZ VOL.3’. Distant and polished. DC 14 Pier - Like A Moth To A Flame (The Arveene Edit) Arveene has taken the lead single from Pier’s fine The Harvest EP (2024) and cleverly shifted its focus from a storming indie track to a chunky house club track. By focusing on the early (developing) refrain “Keep me Burning, Burning in Love” and looping it, he’s created an accessible hook. A funky bassline and diligent use of strings complete the transformation to a radio friendly 3 and half minutes. DC
