The Goo 1
MAR '25 Sack - ‘Adventura Majestica’ (2001) The m
uch loved third album from Sack features some of this great band’s finest work. ‘In Flight’ transitions from studio gold to a live favourite, and you’d struggle to find a song that could move you quite like ‘Tag’ can. Thankfully this wasn’t their final album, but they did leave us waiting 23 years! The Pogues - ‘If I Should Fall From Grace With God’ (1988) How exactly The Pogues managed to write and record so many albums in such a short period of time is astonishing. ‘If I Should Fall From Grace With God’ was their third in four years, and two more would arrive within the next two years. It features the band’s best known song (‘Fairytale Of New York’), but there’s so much more to this album. Jacknife Lee - ‘untitled’ (2007) Here’s an album that far too few people got to hear. By this stage of his career Garett ‘Jacknife’ Lee had already worked as a producer with names like Kasabian, and Snow Patrol on their breakthrough ‘Final Straw’ album. His own third long player which is commonly referred to as his untitled album features some barnstorming track like ‘Making Me Money’ and ‘Monkey In The Meat’. The Frames - ‘Dance The Devil…’ (1999) This is an album that should have bought The Frames the kind of success that acts like Snow Patrol and The Thrills would see in the years that followed. The album’s first track ‘Perfect Opening Line’ was pretty close to what its title suggested. With other tracks like ‘Star Star’, ‘God Bless Mom’ and ‘Hollocaine’, it’s easily up there with the great Irish albums of modern times. Kormac - ‘Equivalent Exchange’ (2022) Arriving 12 years after his impressive debut album ‘Word Play’, ‘Equivalent Exchange’ is the sound of someone that has studied their art. With guest vocalists like Loah, MayKay, Jafaris and others, at times it feels like you’re listening to a soundtrack, then a mixtape, and naturally an album. It’s exquisitely crafted work that would impress anyone, even someone with a passing interest in music. 31
