w Wave Vaudeville’ , the debut album from last month’s cover star Skinner, has been a constant for me since it was released, and it’s likely to remain so for the foreseeable future. Possessing a wonderful irreverence in its tone and delivery, there’s little doubt that this will be counted as one of the debuts of 2025. The Irish contingent that performed at the Eurosonic festival in the Dutch city of Groningen back in January were very well received. Among them were Qbanaa, Cardinals, Annie-Dog, Cruel Sister, and Cliffords. The 26 latter debuted a new track that if I heard correctly is called ‘Favourite Monster’. Some of the other names that went down well at the festival were Dutch acts Marathon and Liza Dries, and Sirens Of Lesbos from Switzerland. The much anticipated debut album from Marathon which is titled ‘Fading Image’ is due to arrive on April 11th. Speaking of music that might be new to you, the latest single from Vaelin is one of the best so far this year. ‘If only you’d hold me’ is taken from the forthcoming EP ‘For Your Desire, May I Never Change’ which is set to be released in April. He released the ‘songs that haunt me’ EP last summer which is also worth investigating. Lastly for this month, do you remember a Dublin band called 8Ball? They released two albums ‘8Ball’ in 2005 and ‘With All Your Friends’ in 2009. There were few better Irish bands during the first decade of the Millennium. Their 2009 album is on Spotify; tracks like ‘Rooftops’, ‘Dig It’ and ‘My 55’ have a glorious groove to them.
