SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2019 SOCIAL CONDITIONS COMM
UNITY ENGAGEMENT Hedin Bil has taken the active decision that each and every company in Sweden should be covered by collective agreement. Every coworker should have a safe employment and regulated terms of employment that by its core is founded on general principals of human rights and the individual right of everyone to organize as well as the right to negotiate with the employer and the right to participation as a part of our democratic system. With us, every employee is guaranteed a number of rights and terms that surpasses those that is legally demanded. Through the collective agreement and occupational pension, the employee is guaranteed significantly higher OAP than the law grants and further examples is our parental leave perks. From a larger perspective this effects the societal equality as well as bettering the conditions for the elderly. Our collective agreement also states that other benefits for the employee in the form of other safety insurances, such as life insurance, rehabilitation support and supplementary sick leave as well as extra compensation if a work-related accident were to occur. To be covered by a collective agreement also grants extra safety and support when unemployed or lacking work through the negotiated unemployment insurances. This means that support to the employee, employer and/or union organizations during the termination of an employment grants transition support in the form of additional economical compensation with potential unemployment for both civil servants and workers, as well as support along the way to a new employment for those who get their employment terminated. This takes the form of skills development and the possibility of business development for companies. LONG TERM EFFECT FOR THE COMMUNITY Ever since the Swedish model with collective agreements took form, Sweden has enjoyed a more stable job market than most comparable countries. Since we are living in a time of peace on the job market during the tome of collective agreement, both parties benefit from the minimization of halts in the work chain so that the companies can focus on developing their business operations, creating more job vacancies. The employees have benefited from collective negotiations of salaries and terms and we have a more equal community with safe and well-founded legal frameworks where companies within the same market segment is competing on the same terms. As an example, it’s not possible for us as an employer to lower any prices through cut downs for the employees. Instead, we must invest in increased competition, productivity and efficiency. From a larger perspective this type of efforts contributes to one of the key factors for Sweden, being a High-Tec and modern society in the spearhead of technical advancements, know-how and working conditions. JOB MARKET VENTURES Reports show that we are facing a bright future and a large need for recruiting within the automotive industry. Within the next three years, the market needs to expand with at least 5300 persons, meanwhile fewer and fewer adolescents are applying for the vehicle high school programs. The motor industry is also defined by a quick paced technical development. The conditions of the different trades have changed over time concerning skills but also concerning equipment, tools and work techniques. 26 6 ACTIONS AND RESULTS An important subject for us at Hedin Bil is that we are helping young people in to labour through active and continuous collaboration activities that makes sure to secure work possibilities and meets the demands for competence from the market. More than 30% of our local workshops in Sweden and Norway is actively engaged in different types of collaborations with vehicle oriented high school programs or vocational schools. The activities consist of different types of job market theme-days, seminars, lectures and meet-ups with students and their parents as well as teachers and guidance officers. We also actively partake in steering committees within educational and vocational organs with the aim to affect the contents of the different educations, both politically and educationally with demands on modern theoretical and practical trade knowledge, technical equipment and teacher’s competence. The vocational schools usually have students from areas with a high potential, that is to say where the unemployment rates are typically high or where you for any other reason has slipped outside the job market. This means that even small, local actions from us as an employer, such as providing a social network or offer the possibility to internship, could make a huge impact by building bridges to the Swedish and Norwegian market. Within our operations we have accepted 150 interns and apprentices in vehicular technology during 2019. As a direct result 38 persons has been employed as vehicle technicians after finishing their internships in our workshops. This proves that 29,7% out of the 128 vehicle- and damage technicians that were recruited during the year came from this channel. THE PURPOSE OF THE EFFORTS ARE: • Creating networks with politicians, school boards, school managements and teachers to create an interest, engagement, understanding and economical actions for the vehicular trades. • Make sure that the competence of tomorrow lives up to the demands for qualifications through effecting the technical and theoretical contents of the educations. • Market trades and career paths within the vehicle industry for students at an early stage to encourage that they choose to educate themselves within vehicular technology to safeguard the future competence resources. • Change the stale conception that workshop labour is a heavy and industrial job, but rather a technical and highly qualified job within electric drive, self-driving technology, online/wired cars, longdistance diagnosis etc. • Attract more students to the vehicle business and inspire the right future career and aspirations and to point at different career paths. • Show that the vehicle industry is facing a bright future with many job possibilities, where a job can be obtained fast and safe. • Market ourselves as a contemporary and future employer. • As a base for recruitment and a social network to find the next coworker and the right set of competence.
