CSR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
A good day begins at home is Mimer’s customer promise. A good home, a pleasant housing area and a well-functioning city with endless possibilities are preconditions for a quality and secure life. We take a broad social responsibility and contribute to good living conditions for all who live and work in Västerås. THE VALLBYPROJECT Together with the tenants association Mimer has worked for many years with a project in the district of Vallby, to increase the influence and input of residents and other actors in the district. Some of the activities during 2012 • Women’s and girls’ cafe - cafe meetings with the Family Centre, IDA Unit, Swedish church and recreation center. • Lecture on Somali culture in cooperation with the County Council and Västmanland County Museum. • Autumn Fest - in October, in collaboration with the recreation centre, open preschool, the Swedish Church, Vallby School Vallby kindergarten, • dents, tenants association, PRO and others. BÄCKBY – A COLLABORATIVE DISTRICT In the district of Bäckby, Västerås City Council has run a development project since 2009, a development which Mimer participates. Through this project, we want to reinforce the sense of security and pride in the neighborhood, improve integration, participation and quality of schools. The project is based on a broad commitment from many stakeholders, both in the voluntary sector and in local businesses. In January 2012, we increased the resources by the appointment of a full-time project manager. The project is organized into six areas and Mimer is actively involved in four of the projects TENANT INFLUENCE IN BÄCKBY As a complement to Västerås City Council’s investment we run an extensive tenant influence project. This one-year project will be extended in 2013. Two project managers were hired to carry out a detailed analysis of the needs within the district. Almost a thousand people were interviewed about their neighborhood and what they think can be improved, and now the results are used in the next phase. 6 Bostads AB Mimer Sustainability Report 2012 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH Neighborhood Watch is about neighbors working together in networks to combat crime in the residential area. The network supports the residents in keeping watch over each other’s homes and neighborhood. The work is done in collaboration with the police to assist with knowledge and information. Traditionally the neighborhood watch is built on dialogue and cooperation between the residents and the police, but today we are seeing a trend where more parties such as the municipality, tenants’ association and property owners take active responsibility to support neighborhood watch. Since the interaction is based on the neighbors getting to know and helping each other practically, this often increases security in the area. This is especially true for residents in apartment blocks. Anonymity is reduced and the residents are given the opportunity to influence their own security in the area. JOB POINT WEST Job Point West was started by Mimer in 2005, it is an EUfunded project. The aim is that people, mostly in Västerås’ western neighborhoods and focusing on Mimer tenants, will get a meaningful job to go to. This is done through partnerships with local employers and personal coaching as well as exciting new entrepreneurial programs. The goal is that at least 60% of job seekers will find employment, start some form of education or start their own business. Of those who are on the entrepreneurial program, the goal is that at least 25% should be ready to start their own business after the program. In 2012, Job Point West worked with 126 participants. Of the 110 who completed the program during the year, 64 had a job, and 12 have started training. In the Entrepreneur line Job Point West had 29 participants. Of the 23 who completed during the year, six have been ready to start their own business. Thus, Job Point West has again reached its ambitious goals. In addition to the regular activities Job Point West participated in the working group Bäckby initiative and arranged a Job Fair with them in October. Many people have shown interest in Jobs Point West and during the year the project was presented to The City of Västerås Executive Committee, Labor Council, Mälardalen University, Structural Fund East-Central Sweden, and other similar ESF projects and the European Social Fund.
