WORDS Shamim De Brún Flight Club Get set for a li
vely new pub experience as Flight Club Dublin prepares to land in the space that was formerly home to Sam’s Bar on Dawson Street. The newcomer promises a boozing experience that combines all the charm of a traditional pub experience centred around the ancient pastime of darts. With unique decor based on a fairground theme, the experience sees a revamped take on the traditional game of darts, with cameras tracking and scoring every dart thrown, and games accommodating up to a dozen people. In keeping with the theme, one of the highlights of the food and cocktail menu features a sharing cocktail served in a trophy cup. Organisers tell us that live action replays will appear on screen during each session, while afterwards, shareable stories of the best moments can be delivered directly to guests’ phones. Stephen Cooney, director of Loyola Group who are behind the new venture, says they are looking forward to scoring one hundred and eighty while delivering “a unique and thrilling venue that Dublin has been waiting for.” Doors open at the end of January. Over to you, Jocky Wilson! flightclubdarts.com Grogan’s Christmas Art Show Half Cut – Swift Halves As if the toasties and pints of Guinness weren’t enough, the genial folk at Grogan’s are providing Dublin drinkers with yet another excuse to pop in for a quick afternoon visit this month. Their 2024 Christmas Art Show takes place on Sunday December 8th, with all proceeds in aid of Our Lady’s Hospice in Harold’s Cross. With lots of great artwork up for grabs, bidding is by paddle only, available at the bar. Cash is king, with successful bidders urged to collect all purchases before closing time. Registration takes place at 2pm on the day and the auction itself runs from 3pm – 5pm. @groganscastlelounge Word has reached us of a new trend that sees some folk going half and half on their bevvies, with drinks comprising half a pint of Guinness Zero, and half a pint of Guinness. In the same pint glass no less. And ditto for Heineken. You can order it at the aforementioned Board, and by all means check it out in your local over the season but… be prepared for some choice reactions from old school bar tenders and champions of the pint of plain.
