The Goo 1
JUNE/JULY '25 to physically do it anymore. The po
int where that music becomes more fun to listen to than it is to play. Just naturally I started thinking about how I actually missed playing songs that are fun to play and have a bit of energy to them. I’ve always written stuff like that. I just never used it. But this is the first band I’ve been in that wasn’t tuned to Drop A. Although… Bushe: This is the first band I’ve been in probably since Sir Kill A Lot twenty something years ago where it’s like… song songs. Jamie: It’s also just a product of whatever it’s going on at the time. At some point the toll of playing in heavier bands, and dealing with darker subject matter. … It’s not that it feels like an act, but it does feel a bit like I’m not doing all this other stuff that I wanna do. Kunal: I mean, you love it. the first kind of music you get into, like Nirvana. I mean, you love that. You never really lose it. Tell me about the recording for the brilliant ‘Bingo’. You recorded at Last Light Recording Studios? Jamie: With Shauny [Cadogan]. Yeah. Shauny is literally our fifth Beatle really at this point. Kunal: I’m sure he would disagree with that. Bushe: He’s Ringo. Jamie: He’s a giant beetle. He’s literally the character from Kafka. We arrived and he just there’s this series of legs and feelers. Kunal: He just presses the red button and sits back and goes fucking dog shit with his mandibles. Jamie: We record everything with Shauny. We literally just practice, like, drill the songs into ourselves and go “Shauny, it’s time.” And he goes, “Grand. How many songs this time?” Kunal: He said we’re the easiest band he records. Because we know how to play the songs. Also because he usually does metal stuff which is mad complicated. Bushe: All of these are live, then they’re just overdubbed on the vocals. So all of the recordings that you ever hear us do, we’ve played the song start to finish. That’s going on. Pete: And we’ve done it a thousand fucking times. 29 Bingo, “8 songs that sound like being punched in the face and high-fived at the same time” is released through The Ghost Is Clear Records/SuperFi Records, and is available digitally and on vinyl now at hsji.bandcamp.com. They support MSSV (featuring Mike Watt) in The Grand Social on Sunday June 8th.
