\New Swedish Books, spring 2019 1
SPRING 2019 Welcome to our new literary magazine!
This year we are trying out a new format for our publication on Swedish literature. The name is the same, but the presentation is slightly different. In this issue you will find a smaller selection of Swedish books due for publication in Sweden in spring 2019. In the Critic’s Choice section you can read about Yukiko Dukeʼs top picks for new spring fiction, and Martin Hellströmʼs selection of children’s and YA books that he believes successfully capture the childʼs viewpoint. Moa Matthis then provides an overview of trends within Swedish nonfiction, and a selection of books offering a variety of perspectives on the image of Sweden. You will also find information on which books were awarded literary prizes, which received the the most translation grants, and the most noteworthy debuts of the moment. We have also included interviews with translators and other experts who can offer fresh angles on Swedish literature. If youʼre interested in translation or other international literary grants, please visit our website: www.swedishliterature.se And donʼt hesitate to get in touch with suggestions for what you would like to see in future issues of this magazine.
