New Swedish Books 46 Grants for translators of Sw
edish literature and drama As a professional translator of Swedish literature and drama you can apply for a grant to cover costs for work-related travel and professional development. There are two types of grants you can apply for, the travel grant and the sample translation grant. Travel grant: If you need to go to Sweden to meet an author or publisher, or carry out research, you can apply for a grant to contribute to travel and accommodation costs. This grant can also be used to visit book fairs or literary festivals in countries other than Sweden in order to meet publishers and authors. You can also apply for this grant if you would like to take part in a translators’ conference or workshop outside your home town. Mentorship activities can also be supported. Sample translation grant: If you would like Facts In 2018 we supported 88 translators with SEK 471 950. 54 were translators’ workshops/ seminars, 20 were sample translations, and the rest were visits to Sweden, to book fairs/ festivals, and participation in book launches. to introduce an author to your language, you can apply for a sample translation grant. The grant can finance you to work on a quality sample translation, author biography and/or summary of the book. The maximum grant available is SEK 12 000. We ask you to provide information on which publishers you are planning to approach and why, and your overall plan for your chosen material. We then ask you to report back in a year.
