They share a mission to transform overlooked areas into modern neighbourhoods and an understanding that projects on this scale take years to realize. allfast and Skanska first transformed an industrial area of former oil cisterns into the fashionable Gåshaga Pirar neighbourhood, in Lidingö, Stockholm. Now, in 2020, the time has come for the makeover of Ekerö Strand. In 2007, the Gåshaga Pirar neighbourhood was completed and the residents had started moving in after two decades of hard work at this somewhat dormant, part of Lidingö. Over the years, 27 old oil storage cisterns were removed, and some 1,000 cubic metres of soil were cleaned through 18 OUR WAY PARTNERSHIPS land farming, a sustainable method rather like composting. “The idea of turning our land at Gåshaga, with the old oil warehouses, into a residential area was thought of by Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg already in the late 1980s. The clearing of the area, which was carried out in the most sustainable way possible, even though it extended the whole process by a couple of years, became the starting point for the sustainability work in Soya Group,” says Jonas Kleberg, Chairman and CEO of Soya Group. “When it comes to the building part of the Gåshaga project, Skanska provided the project management, construction management, and expertise in residential Ekerö Strand, soon to be tranformed into a new neighbourhood with some 500 apartments.
