I got to know the company, its products, people and culture – and I got to travel to China, which was an incredible experience,” he says. Emil Kotz went on to complete a further two placements, but just before finishing the last one, he was offered a job at Wallenius Marine. EE Naval architect Emil Kotz joined Wallenius Marine in the role of Design Manager six months ago. Prior to that, he had completed a 12-month traineeship with Lighthouse, the Swedish Maritime Competence Centre. “Wallenius Marine got to know me during my placement, and after the trainee programme there was an opportunity for me to start here,” he explains. “Thanks to the Lighthouse programme, my experience is broader than it would’ve been if I’d started to work right after my graduation. I also believe it has made me more flexible, and ready to take on any challenge I’m given,” Emil Kotz concludes. Lighthouse in short The Swedish maritime industry has created a trainee programme for newly graduated master’s students, managed by the Swedish Maritime Competence Centre, Lighthouse.
