A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN WALLENIUS MARINE & SSPA Sai
ls set for the future Despite already operating some of the world’s most fuel-efficient vessels, Wallenius Marine is preparing to step up its game. Along with leading maritime experts SSPA, the Center of Naval Architecture at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and with funding from the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), they are developing the first wind-powered Pure Car Carrier (wPCC). The new vessel, due for delivery in the end of 2024, will emit 80 to 90% fewer emissions than a fossil-fuel-powered ship. Vendela Santén, PhD, is the Project Manager responsible for the wPCC at SSPA. She says the combination of SSPA’s research knowledge and Wallenius Marine’s practical shipping expertise is proving crucial to the groundbreaking project. “Together, we’re forming a competence cluster with unique expertise that places us at the cutting edge globally,” she explains. “While Wallenius Marine seeks to Sofia Werner and Vendela Santén. be a sustainability frontrunner and is brave enough to put its resources into innovative concept development, SSPA is a knowledge company that helps shipping companies create more sustainable solutions and operations. This future-focused project is entirely in line with our shared objectives,” Vendela Santén adds. OUR WAY PARTNERSHIPS 21
