Regular AUG-SEPT 23 GEIST'S TOP 10... Dublin-base
d DJ, promoter and writer Geist (or Nathan Jack) boasts a wealth of experience within the dance music industry. Known mainly for his quality house and techno sets, Geist has headlined shows at home and abroad including acclaimed support slots for DART, X-Coast, Phara and headline slots at Life Festival and Otherside. Nathan has also found himself immersed in two of the most exciting parties to come out of Dublin in recent times, Hidden Love and Salvaged. While also being an avid contributor for Four Four Magazine, he has handpicked 10 of his top dance music tracks for us! 01 Bumble - 'West In Motion' (Weatherall Mix) I have to start with this track as the original claims to be the first Irish dance tune that was created way back in 1991. The Andrew Weatherall Mix is by far my favourite though, hearing the fusion of old-fashioned Irish music mixed with contemporary music and production techniques really puts things into perspective! RIP Andrew Weatherall. 02 Underworld - 'Two Months Off' The memories that are attached to this track may be unlike any other for me. Timeless, legendary, straight euphoria. You just can't beat it. 03 Mall Grab - 'Can't (Get U Outta My Mind)' I recall when I first came across this track. It sort of enabled a shift in my taste in dance music at the time which probably would have been 7 or 8 years ago. Maybe longer, I'm not quite sure. I believe it's just one of those songs that stick with you and this one is that for me. Amazing to see what he has accomplished since then. Bravo. 04 DJ Special Needs - 'Obsession' (A2) Now, I'm not quite sure if I should share this one, to be honest. Firstly, the name is graphic enough. That's without listening to the track itself. The vocals, tempo, and everything about it is crazy, but I love it. The tune is super in your face and erotic but anytime I've played it the crowd goes mental. It's dirty but equally infectious. 05 True Or False - 'Interface Rhythm' (Dylan Fogarty Remix) My favourite of his that I've heard from him (so far). I can firmly say that he's been my favourite producer since I discovered him a little over a year ago. He blends house and techno in his productions like no one else. He's going all the way, right to the top. soundcloud.com/didealcharacteristicofman 10 08 09 @nathanjackclare @geist.wav @hiddenlovedublin @salvageddub 06 Lee Kelly - 'Still Hopeful It's True' Like I mentioned earlier, some tracks just leave a mark on you. This is another one of those, so simple, soft and elegant. Every time I listen it just makes me feel like everything is going to be okay. We're gonna make it! 07 Faster Horses - 'Transitional Outwear' This is a future classic. First heard this in D.Dan's Vault Sessions Mix which was recorded at Bret in Amsterdam (best mix I've ever heard btw, check it out!). This track exudes everything that dance music should be. Introspective, emotional, euphoric yet elegant. 10/10. Orbital - 'Impact' (The Earth Is Burning) Orbital's productions are so far ahead of their time and seeing them at ADE in 2019 was the best live act I've ever seen. Completely changed my outlook on dance music and that it truly is limitless. Absolute perfection. Technasia - 'Force' Having only recently come across this track I felt reluctant to add it to my top 10 electronic dance tracks. Though, it has to be said that when something strikes you when listening I do think that you have to go with your gut. The first time I heard this in a Technasia mix I instantly had it on repeat and have played it probably over 100 times since. It's definitely a defining techno track for me. It has all the groove you want and the vocal fits perfectly too. Magnifique! Juan Atkins - 'Track Ten' A personal favourite of mine by one of the pioneers of techno, Juan Atkins. I find myself getting lost in this track every time I listen, for something to sound so fresh to this day to me is a work of genius. Just sit back and take it all in. PAGE 35
