mpany NILS KAVANAGH MARIO BAKUNA Head to the heart of Brazil with the Mario Bakuna Band 'Brazilian Landscapes' Tour on August 19th at Arthur's Blues & Jazz Club. Experience the infectious rhythms of samba and bossa nova, as the band transports you to the vibrant landscapes of South America, making for a night of pure musical escapism. Arthur's has a number of great shows wrapping up the summer and into the early September days. On August 25th the stage will come alive with the harmonies of the Macedo / Maguire / Synnott trio. The following day, August 26th, The Dirty Jazz Club invites the audience into their world of dynamic improvisations and electrifying melodies. The month concludes with the Jordan Higgins Quartet, featuring Jake Curran, on August 31st, followed by The 2:19 on September 1st. There's a tribute to a jazz legend, Ken Stuart with the Conor Guilfoyle Octet on September 2nd in Arthur’s, as they pay homage to the timeless contributions of this jazz luminary. The Dublin Jazz Co-Op presents their regular series of Sunday night performances. Up next is the captivating I OK-A featuring Esosa Ighodaro, Darragh O’Kelly & Segun Akano on Sunday August 20th. Something for the southsiders on Friday 15th of September in Walter’s with Dun Laoghaire Guitar Night featuring solo performances from Mike Nielsen and Jonny Dillon. For those of you with a taste for experimentation, events at Unit 44 (Kirkos) in Dublin 7, never fail to deliver. On Friday 25th August Cork musicians Declan Synnott and Phil Maguire are joined by special guest, London artist John Macedo. Each brings their unique take on restriction and (something else like 'simplicity'), resulting in three wildly contrasting, yet linked performances of experimental electronic music. Expect drones, chaos, feedback, stasis, glacial movement. PAGE 40 One of the most lyrical and intimate voices of contemporary piano, Brad Mehldau presents newly commissioned work, 14 Reveries for Piano at the National Concert Hall on the 17th September. To round these weeks off, we at IMC present Late Night Jazz at The Complex as part of the new CultureNight Late programme on Friday 22nd September. This free event will span across the main Depot space and our own intimate club The Cooler with a diverse and exciting programme including Ronan Guilfoyle’s Tudo Bem, OKO and a late night jam with the Jazzabelles. And don't forget regular gigs and jam sessions in various venues around Dublin including Sunday afternoon jazz at the United Arts Club, midweek Jazz at the Americana in Ranelagh, Dashi's Wednesday night jazz in Smithfield, or Richie Buckley's residency in Frank Ryan's in Dublin 7.
