y this year, as well as the spectacle of the parade, there is an absolute wealth of musical acts performing in The Festival Quarter, National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks in Dublin 7 and other venues close by. All shows are highly recommended but here’s our abridged guide to some of the acts performing. MÚLÚ Tigín, 14:00-14:30, Saturday 16th March Co. Down Gaeilgeoir and folk artist MÚLÚ sings with a shruti box, resurrecting traditional songs as gaeilge with the remainder of her trio of Tommy Moynagh, on bódrán and guitar and Ciara Macguire, and adding her championship winning flute playing to the mix, making for an ethereal, authentic experience. GrooveLine Ruaille Buaille Tent, 14:5015:35, Saturday 16th March Bringing impossible levels of funk to proceedings we see GrooveLine, a watertight ship of merry miscreants with earthshaking low end and grooves right out of the Parliament playbook. The Leitrim outfit’s tuneful nods to bands like Snarky Puppy and Vulfpeck might be the perfect things to set you up for a busy Saturday. Mood defining stuff. Celaviedmai Presents Who’s Next? GOAL Global Stage at 15.45 - 16.30. Saturday 16 March 2024. Celaviedmai has curated a set for the GOAL Stage which will feature a variety of emerging artists. The Galway artist is delighted to give this platform to new talent. Recognised for her hard-hitting lyricism, incomparable stage presence and impressive performance PAGE 32 history, Mai performs her vocals live, with live instruments and gives her authentic self to the crowd every single time with unbelievable energy. Born and raised in Galway, her music is celebrated for blending genres within urban contemporary music and she often combines English, French and Irish in her lyrics - paying homage to her Ivorian roots Tadhg Ruaille Buaille Tent, 15:5514:40, Saturday 16th March After a busy year gracing the stages of Electric Picnic, The Late Late Show, Kaleidoscope and Irish speaking festivals like Lá Mór na Gaeilge and Féile na Gealaí, SexyTadhg and their big band will be bringing a multidisciplinary song and dance show that billed as “an unmissable celebration of Irish culture”. Mother Presents Cultúr Club The National Museum of Ireland, 17:00-23:00, Saturday March 16th With Irish DJ Legend SAOIRSE headlining a bill that includes the likes of RTÉ Choice Music Prize nominated electronic artist, Elaine Mai who will be putting on a special, one night only performance to show the latest in her incredible productions, joined by Maykay. Mother DJs Ruth Kavanagh, Ghostboy & Rocky T Delgado will be joined across the site by DJs Kelly-Anne Byrne, Puzzy Wrangler, and more with dancers, kinksters, and fabulous drag artists. The Mother ‘Géilí Mór’, Ireland’s largest Queer céilí returns with the fabulous PJ Kirby (co-host of the smash hit podcast, I’m Grand Mam), with help from RiverDrag & a live queer céilí band. Ispíní Na hÉireann Halla Mór, 20:15-21:00, Saturday 16th of March Folk punk five piece bring their feverish, fervent interpretation of traditional music after an incredible performance at The Academy last December. Already honing the songs for the follow up to their acclaimed debut, ‘Hard Working Men’, the brilliantly named quintet will showcase their mixture of trad, rock and unique instrumentation on the Halla Mór stage. Brìgdhe Chaimbeul & Aidan O’ Rourke Tigín, 17:45-18:15 & 21:1021:40, Sunday 17th March Celebrated Scottish smallpipe virtuoso Brìghde Chaimbeul in this duo with renowned fiddle player Aidan O’Rourke explore ancient melodies in a guttural, threadbare fashion. Characterized not only by their ability, but also their individuality, this presentation from the Baltimore Fiddle Fair has once more ensured its continued reputation of seeking out and celebrating world class talent.
