The Goo 1
Interview ORAN O’BEIRNE FEB-MAR 24 Bursting onto
the Irish underground scene back in early 2023, Progressive Rock/Metal force, Nebularis have quickly gained considerable interest over the last twelve months, reaching the final showcase of the highly-esteemed Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses Ireland event last May, as well as performing at The Siege of Limerick in Autumn, alongside some of Ireland's finest underground artists. This month sees the band release their first full length record, Exodus - Shattered Earth Saga, Part I, and guitarist Mó Sheerin took some time out of her busy schedule to talk to The Goo about said album… For those that don’t know, tell us who Nebularis are and a brief history of the band? Mó: Nebularis are a progressive metal band and we’re from Dublin, Ireland. It originally was set out to be a solo venture by myself however, it progressed naturally to a fully formed band/project, Terry McHugh on bass for the album, Damian Dziennik on drums and Hytham Martin as our vocalist. All of which exceeded my expectations and share the same sonic vision I do for Nebularis. With the release of four singles, and the first full-length available from February 23rd, does it feel like a creative burden has been somewhat lifted now that the album is completed? Mó: Absolutely, I feel like we’ve been incubating these tracks and compositions for the better part of (properly) 2 years - It’s such a relief to see it finally be released and one of my proudest achievements to date. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of something where everyone shares the same passion and drive too. The title of the record is ‘Exodus - Shattered Earth Saga, Part I’, which indicates that this is a concept album. Did the story/concept write itself with each song, or was this the plan for the outset? Mó: I always sought out for the album to have an illustrious display of Science Fiction and general dork lore. Hythams’ (Vocals) lyrics really brought the concept to fruition, and we’re so proud of his work. His words truly painted the imagery behind the story of humanity on a relentless quest to find a new and less hostile life beyond the stars. Speaking of the first record, ‘Part I’ we can only assume that there’s a ‘Part II’. Do you have any idea when that may be released? Or have you started working on it yet? Mó: We are indeed currently working on our next batch of singles upon the second full release (which we hope to release late this year or next) and we cannot wait to show you guys more. The support we’ve all received with this album has been nothing but overwhelming and we thank everyone for this, it’s what keeps us going! We like to get an insight into what it’s like for emerging bands in the Irish scene, so, with that being said, do you have any gripes that you’d like to see change regarding, media attention, venues, etc? Mó: I think we’d personally love to see more collectives forming, tit for tat, a community working together to increase gig opportunities for all genres locally and formations of bands working together with venues to increase the promotion across all media outlets. With regards to fellow bands that you are currently sharing the live scene with, are there any that you’d like to give a shout out too? Mó: Uragh, The Enigma Division, AeSect, Domhain, Restive Nation, Two Tales of Woe, Haint, and Crossfire. Sheer talent and such unique bands across the board there, and all genuinely lovely people. Given the chance, who would you most like to tour with? Mó - Devin, Meshuggah, Gojira and Toto, to name but a few. What plans do Nebularis have coming up over the Summer? Mó - We’ll be working hard at unleashing more and more singles over the next while and in the summer! Hopefully play live a lot more too. Exodus - Shattered Earth Saga, Part I is released on Friday 23rd of February. Find out more from Nebularis via Facebook.com/ nebularisofficial.com. PAGE 37
