FEB-MAR 24 CRUEL SISTER THE PHARCYDE ESSIRAY & FR
IENDS - WHELANS UPSTAIRS - MARCH 16TH We were seriously impressed by the Dublin born singer/ producers performance at the Ones To Watch showcase recently, especially the way she filled the stage solo with a gigantic voice and huge personality. Her last single, ‘Hold Me Closer’ was a collaboration with Austrian based DJ and producer Miles Borghese and is a nostalgic 90s house/trance track with enchanting melodies and energetic, classic 909 drums. Get in early to catch the emerging singer/songwriters Pippa Malony, Saoirse Miller & Hannahbella. THE ALTERED HOURS - WORKMANS CELLAR - MARCH 16TH Fronted by co-lead vocalists Elaine Howley & Cathal MacGabhann, the venerable Cork 5 piece continue an “art-punk” tradition while being influenced by artists such as The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Spacemen 3 & Stereolab. This band always delivers and this is a rare opportunity to see them in such an intimate setting. Highly recommended. BASHT JERSEY - THE GRAND SOCIAL - MARCH 20TH Dublin debut for the French electronic duo who are poised to reignite France’s dance music dominance. Their debut EP ‘The World Im Searching For’ is a full on stradling of rave rhythms and seamlessly blended high-energy house music with elements of UK garage and Drum and Bass. Jersey’s modern and fan-declared “futuristic” sound, coupled with viral live sets, have quickly garnered a devoted following so dont miss this opportunity to see what all the fuss is about. BASHT - WORKMANS CLUB - MARCH 21ST From their inception in 2021 to become one Dublins most interesting rock bands, their stylistic ambiguity and introspective lyrics have seen them garner quite a few admirers along the way. The luminaries at Singular Artists have a sterling track record of exquisite taste. Tag along, find out why. FIRST CLASS & COACH - WHELANS UPSTAIRS - MARCH 22ND To my ear, the things that come to mind when I listen to First Class & Coach are those halcyon days of ‘Disintegration’ era Cure, the lighter side of The Cult THE ALTERED HOURS DEB GOOGE and Siouxsie & The Banshees. It is not an altogether uncommon set of influences, but it is rare to share the same talent as those pioneers for penning dreamy, dark, glittering gems. CHRISTIAN COHLE - WORKMANS CLUB - MARCH 23RD Christian Cohle’s final Dublin show before he sets off to foreign pastures should be a doozy. He’ll be in the centre of the room performing with the audience around him with a fully 360 audio spatial set up using 10 PA speakers set in a circle and visuals to accompany it. It’s rarely been attempted in Ireland before so hats off to Cohle for pushing the envelope. Cohle paints his soundscapes with simple piano, strings, and a heartsick falsetto so if you enjoy the work of James Blake, the expansive soundtracks of Ólafur Arnalds, and particularly his collaborations with Arnór Dan, this is for you. HAPPY DAYS FEST (TURNS 1) - THE GRAND SOCIAL - MARCH 30TH Brilliant line up for the Happy Days Fest first birthday as Cruel Sister headlines with Dream Boy, Pier, Adore and Affection To Rent in stellar support. All acts are well worth checking out and it’s a real credit to the JERSEY crew behind Happy Days - who curate really interesting line ups for their monthly showcase nights - that these acts are happy to share a bill. Highly recommended if you’d like a glimpse of the next wave of new wave. KORMAC - ALWAYS THE SOUND: A RETROSPEC TIVE – NCH - MARCH 30TH In collaboration with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and a host of special guests, this is set to be an unmissable night for Irish music as the Dublin composer, producer, performer and sonic adventurer celebrates his 15 year journey in music so far. Loah, Jack O' Rourke, Shahab & Shayan, MayKay, Claire Young and G.I. are among the special guests over a show that will showcase Kormac's incredible body of work. dA GOOGIE - BELLO BAR - MARCH 30TH Legend in the house! da Googie is the solo project of Deb Googe, bass player with My Bloody Valentine, Thurston Moore Group and Brix Smith. da Googie blends traditional bass lines with more abstract noises and field recordings to make intricate, layered soundscapes (check out ‘November New’, it's deadly). Should be a very special night. PAGE 5
