SARAH O’SULLIVAN Interview Le Boom have been maki
ng waves at home in Ireland, across Europe and the US. Their tracks are reminiscent of parties surrounded by friends, and summers of festivals that evoke feelings of nostalgia. They take inspiration from a multitude of genres which makes them accessible to a wide variety of listeners. I spoke to Christy Leech from Le Boom about their approach to production, their secret parties, and their preparations leading up to their Olympia headline on Dec 2nd. We are currently seeing a surge in live performances with electronic artists, why do you think it’s becoming more popular? We’ve been doing this for a while in different guises. We’ve noticed that it has become popular around us. Big names like Fred Again is the obvious one and his popularity has made live dance music more popular, it has always been there, with the likes of Disclosure as well. There was always good live dance music happening. I suppose people are a bit more turned onto it at the moment. What are some pieces of equipment that are essential to your productions and live performances? How has your production setup changed from when you first started? When I first started it started as very much an indie band, so guitar, bass and, vocals. Then I was living in New York and didn’t have anyone to play with so I was just looping up my parts on the laptop. With that then things just naturally get loopy and dancey. It sort of accidentally started to sound like dance music. Now at the moment, we use a few different things. We use the laptop obviously, that’s the brain of the operation. Then we’re running midi stuff into different synths and then manipulating them on stage. Our live setup is myself and two other guys. There are two live percussionists and Peter who plays other synths and triggers different sounds. It’s a busy setup. LE PAGE 12 THINGS JUST NATURALLY GET LOOPY AND DANCEY BOOM
