PAGE 3 Firstly, a huge thanks for all the messages of goodwill and support towards our publication, we had some lovely moments seeing people picking up the magazine around town and reading it in cafes and venues. We are still finding our feet with it all but judging by the reaction it looks like ye are digging the content and the listings section in particular. We aim to be as comprehensive as we can with the listings but if there’s gaps please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us and we will do our best to include from here on in. We are delighted to have some more great artists featured in this issue, the scintillating Sinead O’Brien, fresh from her superb performance on BBC’s Later With Jools, our finest music documentarian Myles O’Reilly (Arbutus Yarns, This Ain’t No Disco), who is back releasing his own music, the brilliant brothers, Ye Vagabonds, who are an essential component of the massive revival of interest in our own folk music, the mesmerising Bobby Lees from New York who ooze CBGB’s cool and Yeah Yeah Yeahs ferocity, Homebeats first IMMA Summer Party and much more. Overshadowing all the great music news over the last few weeks however was the devastating news that the great Cathal Coughlan had passed away. As frontman, songwriter and lyricist of Microdisney, The Fatima Mansions, Telefís and numerous collabs and solo releases, Corkonian Cathal was the dogs bollox, a fearless, uncompromising commentator on social injustice, a champion of the everyman, a superb singer and songwriter who constantly explored new musical frontiers and a massive inspiration to songwriters at home and abroad. It’s fitting that we have another native of the Rebel County, Colm O’Callaghan, (another man who has surely kissed the Blarney Stone) paying tribute to the great man’s legacy. If you are unaware of Coughlan’s genius check out Microdisney’s ‘The Clock Comes Down the Stairs’, perhaps the greatest Irish album ever made. Ciao Cathal. PIC: DAVE GUTTRIDGE
