Regular Me Jewel and Darlin’ Dublin KEELEY Where
do you live? Sandycove, for now. But in two months time, nowhere. Note to self: find somewhere to live. If such a place exists without having to become a bankrobber. Note to self: become a bankrobber. Do you like the noise of city living? I can’t hear it above the sound of music because I listen to music constantly, and the only times when I’m not listening to music on headphones I hear the sound of music in my head. Which is basically how I write songs. How do you get around the city? By train, bus and on foot. I like to walk and to travel by train. Do you have a secret refuge/ hiding place in the city? Getting lost in music is the only refuge I need. If you found €50 on the street where would you spend it? Spindizzy Records. Favourite watering hole: Vicar St, because it’s the only bar in Dublin I’ve found that stocks my favourite drink, Appletizer. I love that stuff. I once drank 13 PAGE 46 PAGE 46 straight Appletizer’s at a festival in Spain. But it’s very hard to find. Which is just as well, as otherwise I’d probably O.D on it. If you can OD. on what is basically fizzy apple juice. But WHAT a fizzy apple juice. The aftertaste is orgasmic. I’d happily bathe in it. If I had a bath, that is. And enough Appletizer. Favourite building/street: IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art). Favourite walk: Walking on stage. Favourite shop/cafe/eatery: The Secret Book and Record Store, Mugs Cafe (Dalkey), Cornucopia. Best memories of Dublin in your twenties: I have only one happy memory from my twenties, but it didn’t happen in Dublin. One thing Dublin needs more of: Baths, and clubs where they play Indie music. I know that’s two, but both are so sorely lacking. Best Dublin gig you played: Our next one, headlining the “Fuzzed Up” indie club night in The Thomas House on July 16th. Come! Blissoutdontmissout. One thing you miss thats gone: Outside Dublin, the ferry terminal in Stranraer, Scotland. It’s a disgrace it was demolished. In Dublin, The Tivoli. It’s a disgrace it was demolished. If I ruled Dublin I would: Install a bath in every house and flat in the city. I love baths but I can only take one roughly once a year if there’s one in a hotel we’re staying in on tour. In 1969 we took men to the moon. 53 years later we can’t even take a bath. It’s a lamentable backwards step. One small step for man.. one giant leap for bathtime KEELEY headlines the Fuzzed Up Indie Club in the Thomas House on July 16th with support from Sir Marmalade. Ian McGlynn DJ’s afterwards til late. Doors: 8pm. €6 on the door. KEELEY’s debut 10” vinyl Brave Warrior EP and new single “Shadow on the Hills” are out now. Their debut minialbum Drawn to the Flame will be released on Dimple Discs on July 1st but is available to pre-order from Bandcamp now. PIC: BILLY CAHILL
