mends THE WAR AND TREATY - JUNE 22ND - WHELANS The War and Treaty have amassed a following as eclectic as their sound itself, a bluesy but joyful fusion of Southern soul, gospel, country, and rock-and-roll. Known for a live show nearly revival-like in intensity, the husband-and-wife team of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya BlountTrotter from Michigan veer effortlessly between Nashville and The Harlem Apollo. A class act. TIRZAH - JUNE 24TH - BUTTON FACTORY Promoting her fascinating 2021 album Colourgrade South Londoner Tirzah employs a stripped back trip hop ambience with woozy electronics and distorted guitars to underpin her urban hymns and it sounds fresh. At times the minimalist groove just about holds certain tracks together and the treated vocals are scant but the overall effect is hypnotically eerie and intriguing, evoking the late 90’s canon of acts like Tricky and Martina Topley Bird. Definitely one to take a chance on. LEON BRIDGES - JUNE 26TH - THE HELIX Following on from Texas Sun, his brilliant collaboration with fellow Texans, Khruangbin, GoldDiggers Sound is the third solo from the Grammy nominated soul singer Leon Bridges in a career trajectory that saw him going from busking on the streets of his beloved Fort Worth, TX to being signed to a major label and performing at the White House for former President Barack Obama within a two-year span. With a voice to die for, this should be one of those nights. RARE AMERICANS - JUNE 29TH - THE GRAND SOCIAL Rare Americans are that modern phenomenon, a YouTube band. Fronted by brothers James Priestner and Jared Priestner and based in Vancouver, the band are a commercial industry with a sound that straddles the zanier elements of Eminem, Zappa and Weezer. Their most popular song is ‘Brittle Bones Nicky’ with over 61,000,000 YouTube views and they also vlog cooking tutorials. Could be one to bring the kids to. DAIRE HEFFERNAN - JUNE 30TH - WHELANS UPSTAIRS We caught Daire Heffernan’s first ever live set when she opened for Paddy Hanna in The Workmans Cellar and the promise was evident. Tonight it’s her first headliner and she’s also promoting her new EP Wasters, out June 24th. Catchy, guitar driven dream pop is her sound; definitely one to watch. BOB MOULD - JULY 1ST - WHELANS This tour, perfectly timed with the incoming release of Mould’s Distortion: Live vinyl boxset, will see him perform solo versions of music from across his 40+ year career, including songs from the Distortion collection, from his landmark band Hüsker Dü, as well as from last year’s explosive and critically acclaimed Blue Hearts album. MELODIC: HERNÁN CATTÁNEO - JULY 2ND - BUTTON FACTORY A nice coup for local electronic dance promotores Melodic as they bring the Argentinian house DJ to our shores for the first time. As a respected label owner and producer, Cattaneo’s creative output remains as plentiful as ever. In just two years, his Sudbeat label has risen up as a leading light in melodic electronic music – regularly releasing material from names like Guy J, Henry Saiz, Nick Warren and Danny Howells.
